Abraham Verghese is widely known for his acclaimed nonfiction work. My Own Country, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle award, is based on his experiences as a physician treating persons with HIV and was later made into a Mira Nair film. The Tennis Partner was a New York Times notable book and a national bestseller. His riveting first novel, Cutting for Stone, was released in February 2009. He is a professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine and has published extensively in medical literature.
